Mr. Cab Driver Please......
One of the major disadvantages and obstacles of being a Lehizzle resident is undoubtedly transportation. We live in a community where the movers and shakers promote a false delusion and fanatsy promoting this area as some burgeoning cosmopolitan spot on par with NYC and Philadelphia. Most of us rightfully dismiss such nonsense, but one thing that would definitely bring us some credible respectability is a better transit system.
Fist I will start with Lanta. While the main routes during the day are good, particularly to the main downtown areas, the community is underserved and inconvenienced by lack of service at night. There is no doubt that late night routes up until 3 in the morning would be much welcome. Furthermore, why not run 24 hrs?.
The next big issue is something that many people have complained about for years, Taxis. For some reason in small cities laws are on the books by the P.U.C. that apparantley prevent citizens from flagging down cabs. As a result poor Petey has to call and wait for service. When they are busy and there are not enough drivers that poor schmuck has to wait perhaps an hour or more. When something like this occurs people are flung into moments of anguish and despair. Such was the case last weekend when my friends and I were told after Halloween carousing that a cab could potentially take 1 hr or more. Numerous others were in the same situation and we just stood like drunken lemmings on the South Bethlehem sidewalk. Myself being used to such nonsense was able to take in stride, while my dear friend was quite perturbed and did not react well to this debacle. After calming her down the 3 of us attempted to locate a friend staying at the nearby Comfort Suites. We sadly learned he did not make it back and we sat there in the lobby like lost souls calling numerous cab companies only to get the usual run a round. In my case I sprawled myself out across on the hotel floor. Finally we lucked out and a cab came to our rescue.
This type of situation should not occur in the LV or frankly anywhere else. If you want your community to thrive then fix the transit system. Allow people to flag down cabs. Also stop these nonsensical rules where a company in a nearby town can't pick up somewhere else. Allow them to pick up anywhere they want. Lets create competition.
Another thing we need of course is a Train system, but that's a whole other can of worms.
